About

The Zeitschrift für Gemeinwirtschaft und Gemeinwohl (Z’GuG) is an interdisciplinary academic journal with relevance for professional practice (business, politics, civil society). The journal is published as a new series of the Zeitschrift für öffentliche und gemeinwirtschaftliche Unternehmen (ZögU) – Journal for Public and Nonprofit Services.

The thematic focus is on public economics in its diversity of sponsors, administrative theory, the social economy, the third sector, cooperatives, as well as topics of importance to civil society such as communalization, neighborhood and district concepts, network development, and social space building. The Z’GuG is open to fundamental theoretical and methodological discussions and takes up topics that require a cultural-scientific, but also philosophical opening, including the social (medical, nursing, educational, etc.) care debates, gender and other diversity controversies, commons theory, and gift and reciprocity research. From these openings, Z’GuG is dedicated to the meta-theme of the common good.

The Journal of Social Economy and Social Welfare publishes contributions is English and German. The journal would like to initiate and deepen the discussions related to its topics also on an international level. Articles can be submitted in German or English language. In justified individual cases and in accordance with the editors and the publisher German language manuscripts shall be published in English language. These will then be translated using software and may be subjected to minor editing which will not change their content. The final review of the translated manuscript lies with the authors.

Publishing Open Access

Z’GuG is not an open access journal. However, it is possible to publish individual articles in the journal open access by making the digital version freely available under a Creative Commons license chosen by the respective author(s). The publisher requires a fee to cover the publication costs (Article Processing Charge – APC) in the amount of 1,990.00 EUR (plus VAT). Many scientific institutions and science funding bodies provide corresponding funds for the publication of research results.
