WestEnd. Neue Zeitschrift für Sozialforschung was founded in 2004 by the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research and is aimed at a broader intellectual readership. As the next-generation of the renowned Social Research journal, Zeitschrift für Sozialforschung (1932-1941), the periodical continues to put forth the notion of interdisciplinarity and critical social theory. WestEnd is multi-disciplinary, with a special emphasis on Sociology, Philosophy, Political Theory, Aesthetics, History, Social Psychology, Jurisprudence and Political Economy. The distinct voices of its authors take on contentious social issues, present comprehensive analyses of the social status quo and introduce bold perspectives on the future of emancipation. WestEnd is aimed at academic researchers, students, intellectuals and media representatives. Readers can look forward to a new theme in each issue as well as the mainstay columns ‘Studies’ and ‘Interventions’.
WestEnd is published bi-annually by Nomos Verlag and edited by Sidonia Blättler, Axel Honneth, Stephan Lessenich, Johannes Völz and Greta Wagner. It was founded at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt am Main (IfS) and has its origins in the Frankfurt School of Thought. The previous issue was published in May 2023.
WestEnd Editor-in-Chief, Saskia Gränitz, is a researcher at the IfS.
