Nomos makes bibliographic metadata available for free use under CC0 licence

Nomos Verlag provides unrestricted access to the bibliographic metadata of its publications

Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, one of the leading scientific publishers in the German-speaking world, is making its bibliographic metadata available free of charge under a Creative Commons Zero licence (CC0 1.0 Universal). This decision supports the goal of a freely accessible ‘Web of Data’ and makes it possible to make high-quality scientific works visible worldwide.

The CC0 licence allows users to use the bibliographic metadata without restriction and without legal limitations. The metadata can be obtained in various formats, including ONIX, MARC21 and KBART.

We are convinced that this initiative will not only benefit researchers and academics, but will also significantly support our library partners. We are very pleased to further promote the dissemination of knowledge and research in the legal, social sciences and humanities.

Maike van Wasen , Metadata management

Libraries can integrate the metadata into their catalogues, enrich them and make them available for various applications without having to worry about licensing restrictions. Nomos endeavours to contribute to the promotion of free access to scientific information and to facilitate the dissemination of its quality-checked scientific works. In exceptional cases where a metadata record is not in the public domain, this is explicitly labelled. The publisher attaches great importance to providing transparent information about the licensing of its metadata. More information can be found in the publisher’s guidelines.

Nomos Verlag is one of the leading academic publishers in the legal, social sciences and humanities in the German-speaking world. Together with its imprints Academia Verlag, Ergon Verlag, Georg Olms Verlag, Verlag Karl Alber, Rombach Wissenschaft and Tectum Verlag, the publishing house publishes more than 1,100 books each year that meet the highest academic standards. The academic excellence of Nomos’ publications is emphasised by numerous awards and the funding of the Nomos eLibrary by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Nomos is regularly categorised as one of the best German publishers in rankings of academic publishers, including the internationally renowned SENSE Ranking.
